Honest opinions

Alright guys. I want some honest opinions about the new album. I listened to the album on myspace yesterday and I was painfully letdown. I found myself thinking, “well, these songs could grow on me.” Man I wish I didn't have to say that though. I was so hoping that the melodies would jump out at me and have me rocking out saying, “hell yeah!” Instead I was wincing at the boring guitar riffs and weak choruses. Many times, I feel the verses would be good, then the chorus would hit which is supposed to be the explosion of the song, and it would be completely weak. I remember I was digging one of the songs and then the chorus hit and all River sang was, “aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh, uuuhhhhhhhhhh, ahhhhhhhhhhhh.” Sometimes this can be catchy, but I wasn't feeling it.

What sucks, is that in listening to most of the lyrics besides Beverly Hills and We’re All on Drugs, Rivers is pouring out some emotion. His emotional outcry didn't seem to have quite the same effect as Pinkerton however.

I know we all want to love everything weezer comes out with for the mere fact that they are weezer, but I want some honest opinions here. If you guys had never heard of weezer, would you like this album? What do you all think it's stopping weezer from coming out with that another kick ass album?

I think I will go out and buy this album and I'm sure it will grow on me. But it may end up collecting dust in my CD case just like the green album and Maladroit. Who knows, I may have a different opinion next week.

    well.

i do have to say that i think it is a good album, but it is no pinkerton or blue album.
all of this is coming from an obsessed fan of pinkerton, mind you.
i really love rivers' voice throughout the cd. you can tell he's older and it just sounds so... i dunno, classic.
some of the songs are a little out there and sound the same, but i feel like the album was rushed in a way. also i believe rick rubin had a HUGE influence over it and kind of made it the way it is.
although i was expecting a lot more and was a bit let down when i first listened to it, i enjoy it now and listen to it on a daily basis.
it wasn't as bad as green album, and it wasn't as rough as maladroit. it sounds like things are going back to the good ol' days.
y'know, before they were "emo." ;]

Composing my "review" now, but just a note- upon listening to the retail version i got yesterday, it just feels and seems very different from the rip i got off the web 2 weeks ago, and for the better...like it much more than i did.

also let down... but i guess my hopes are always too high when it comes to new weezer albums. it's just that there are so many other good unreleased =w= tunes i was hoping to see make this disc.
one point of optimism: it is growing on me. the couple times i sat down and listened to it alone, i wasn't too into it. then, last night, i had it on as background noise while drinkin some beers and shootin the shit with some friends and we were all kinda gettin into it. it's definately all over the place... songs that are upbeat, old school weezer rock intersperced with ballads and retro/nu age funk. something for everyone. so we'll see!

I was thinking also, that I bet there are so many unreleased songs that should be on the album. Since Pinkerton it seems that all the unreleased songs are better than the released ones. I don't know what the deal is.

          Brody,
have you heard any new unreleased songs?

i was listening to some downloaded live weezer at a friends place the other day (sorry, can't remember any titles) and a lot of them were really good.
i was hoping 'prodigy lover' would end up on this record. i'm sure you guys have seen the dvd- 'video capture device' - it's the last song on that.

Well, I bought the album and I have listened to it several times. I'm still not jumping up and down over a kick ass weezer album but I'm taking back much of the criticism I initially had.

I would say about half the album has really grown on me and I'm very glad I bought the CD. The songs I speak of include tracks two through five, track seven and tracks 11 and 12. I still think Beverly Hills and We Are All on Drugs are horrible songs.

It amazes me how weezer has come out with five albums, all completely different then one another. The new album has some strong emo tendencies, which pains me to say but many times emo is my guilty pleasure.

So I changed my mind. I recommend the CD to all weezer fans out there.

Alright, I am a huge weezer fan, or at least have been in the past. the first two albums are great. the rock, they are funny, and they are honest. when the green album and maladroit came out, i was there to buy it the day it was released despite the fact that they were not as high of quality as the other albums, but for this album, i heard the new single and just was not as enthused to get this one. i got it, but the day after it was released as opposed to 9:00 am on release day. I havent really listened to it much because ive been into other tunes lately. i just dont have the same weezer fire for the new stuff. I do like the unreleased stuff. in fact, before the green album came out, i made a cd of all unreleased stuff that i had downloaded and called it tylerton, i liked it so much. still, not feelin the new stuff either colin.
